Panoche to San Francisco and Marin County
If all of California
is my front yard as I like to think, it's great to be
in my back yard again. Riding the roads from Panoche to Gilroy was so
relaxing. I got to see friends I had met at the beginning of my trip, like
Kevin Borba and Larry and Cheryl Lopez, the Proprietors of the Panoche Inn.
I stayed at Bob Jones' Ranch on Panoche Road and Tom Tobias' Ranch on
Browns Valley Rd.
From Gilroy to Santa Cruz I went home each night. WoooHoooo! I got to ride
sections of this ride with friends. I rode LLagas Creek in Gilroy with
Kevin Orepeza and to Mount Madonna with Brittney Orepeza. Martha McNiel
rode Summit Road above Santa Cruz with me.
Along the coast I stayed with Sandy and Bob Courrier, who had offered their
hospitality over the internet. They were wonderful hosts and showed me a
back way to Pescadero in a redwood forest with flowing streams and
waterfalls, which were so relaxing.
Bob Nielsen rode with me from the Presidio Riding Club over Mount Tamalpais
and on to Samuel P. Taylor State Park. Martha McNiel shuttled us, including
across the Golden Gate Bridge. Martha camped with us one night and the
ticks loved her. She pulled 10 out of her hair. Bob and I also had the
critters on board but not to the degree of Martha.
With Marin complete, I have decided to alter my route to go to the Horse
Expo in Sacramento. I have done my food drops up to Redding and now plan to
ride up the central portion of the state instead of the coast. It was very
hot during the drops and I am sure you will hear more about the heat as I
write about it later.
